Dog Behavior Health Assessments in Portland, OR

We know that dealing with your dog’s unwanted behavior can be challenging and overwhelming. You don’t have to face it alone! Our goal is to provide comprehensive and personalized behavioral treatment to help you and your canine companion work toward lasting behavioral improvement.

Part 1: In-Person Behavior Health Assessment Appointment

This appointment takes place at our NW Portland facility. Before your visit, our team will conduct a detailed review of your dog’s behavioral and medical history. During the appointment, Dr. Valli will perform a thorough physical and behavioral evaluation, discuss possible diagnoses and necessary medical rule-outs, and work with you to create a short-term diagnostic and treatment plan. This plan may include environmental and social changes, thermal imaging, medications, and/or additional diagnostic tests conducted at our practice or your primary veterinarian’s clinic.

After your appointment, you'll receive informational handouts and a detailed clinical summary, and your primary veterinarian will be updated on your dog’s treatment plan.

For scheduling, please allow up to 1 hour and 15 minutes for this appointment.

Part 2: Virtual Appointment

Held via Zoom, this follow-up session allows Dr. Valli to assess how effectively the short-term plan has been implemented, review any screening or diagnostic test results, and collaboratively develop a long-term strategy for your dog’s behavior. This plan may include behavior modification, medications, supplements, dietary adjustments, and other environmental or social changes. In some cases, Dr. Valli may ask to view areas of your home relevant to your dog’s treatment plan.

Following this appointment, you and your primary veterinarian will receive a detailed clinical summary, including any diagnostic results.

Follow Up

Dr. Valli will establish a customized follow-up schedule to support you and your dog through the initial treatment phase, typically lasting 2 to 4 weeks. After this phase, you’ll continue working with our veterinary support team and trainers to reinforce your dog’s progress, while Dr. Valli oversees and manages ongoing care. Email communication for simple questions about your dog’s treatment is included with the doctor appointment fees, while more complex inquiries may require an appointment with a Behavior Technician or Veterinarian.

The first Behavior Progress Evaluation with Dr. Valli will take place 6 months after the initial consultation. To remain an active client, you and your dog will need to meet with Dr. Valli every 6 months.
